This webinar is a comprehensive discussion on the General Data Protection Regulation from the EU. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which is designed to enable individuals to better control their personal data. The GDPR was ratified mid 2016 and immediately became law. Member states now have a 2 year implementation period. Enforcement will commence by 25th May 2018 at the latest.

Protecting customer’s privacy has been a concern for businesses recently the establishment of the EU regulation called GDPR, General Data Protection Regulation. This new regulation from the EU will comply US businesses with laws that add additional protections to consumer information.

The greatest threat to your personal privacy in the 21st century is identity theft and fraud. There are over 16 million new victims of Identity Theft, every year that are reported to law enforcement. According to the Federal Trade Commission, Identity Theft is the fastest growing crime. This new regulation is an additional law to protect customers from Identity Theft and fraud.

Companies that do business in Europe will be responsible for damages caused by a data breach.

U.S. business shouldn’t have anxiety about the new GDPR. Rather, this new law is an opportunity for the business to improve their cybersecurity posture by providing better control to mitigate the damages of data breaches.

This law may seem like an intrusion on a business, however, it can be a good tool for the business to reevaluate their current security processes and procedures and to ensure their customer’s trust, increase business reputation and avoid legal entanglements.
