Daniella Picciotti has over 25 years of experience in Supplier Quality Management across an array of industries include aerospace, medical device, and nuclear energy.  Currently, Daniella is the principle at QMS Alliance (a quality management systems consultant), is a certified lead ISO9001 auditor and AS9100 Aerospace auditor.  She is also an instructor for the American Society of Quality (ASQ) providing instruction on supplier life cycle management, supplier risk management supplier audits, and Root Cause Analysis.  She holds three ASQ certifications: Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Manager of Quality / Organizational Excellence and Certified Supplier Quality Professional.

Organizations in today’s globally expanding marketplace are engaging with suppliers that too are global.  In addition, these engagements are increasing in complexity; be it process, product, or service complexity.  Add to these complexities the requirement for compliance in industry and governmental regulations and organizations look for ways to ensure capability as well as compliance in the supply chain.

Auditing suppliers is one of many ways to assess supplier capability and compliance.  Supplier audits take time, personnel resources, and budget.  A supplier audit system can benefit an organization through the use of data and risk analyses.  In addition, the supplier audit process itself can be defined in such a way as to ensure the personnel and budgetary resources are prioritized effectively and efficiently.  Supplier audits can be onsite or remote – how does one decide which suppliers to audit, what to audit, how to audit?
